Liposuction at a glance: If you are overweight and have excess fat, you are probably thinking about liposuction. But there are different methods of liposuction that everyone should inform themselves about beforehand. Below is an overview of the different methods of liposuction.

The tumescent technique

The most commonly used liposuction procedure is the tumescent technique. A mixture of anesthetic, sodium carbonate, cortisone and sterile water is injected under the skin using the finest cannulas. The liquid acts directly on the adipose tissue and dissolves from the tissue. After about 30 minutes of exposure, the fat cells have soaked up the liquid and are then sucked out with fine cannulas.

The vibration technique

With this method, a device is used to suction fat, which is connected to a vibrating cannula and performs short, rapid vibrations. This method is particularly effective in the buttocks or back area. The tumescence technique in combination with the vibration technique is currently considered the most gentle and at the same time most effective method of liposuction.

Safeliposuction as a supplementary method

This is a complementary method of liposuction that optimizes the results. This procedure is particularly suitable for patients whose skin has very little elasticity. First, the cells are separated and isolated from the tissue using vibrating needles. The fat is then suctioned out and transferred from the tissue. Safeliposuction is a very gentle procedure, as surrounding blood vessels and nerves are spared.

The laser lipolysis – Liposuction at a glance

This method of liposuction is also called Smartlipo. A cannula is inserted into the fat layer in question, which then generates heat with a laser beam. The fat cells liquefy so that they can be suctioned out more easily. The laser light closes the blood vessels and the surrounding structures are protected. This reduces bleeding and swelling. Laser lipolysis is particularly suitable for small fat deposits. This method of liposuction takes about 15 to 20 minutes per session and general anesthesia is not necessary.

The Bodytite procedure

This procedure uses radio frequency waves. As with laser lipolysis, heat energy is also used here, which is generated with an electrode. The fat cells then liquefy and can be suctioned out. Another electrode is placed under the skin, which controls the temperature to prevent overheating. Among other things, this method also produces a skin-tightening effect.

The water jet technique

With this method, the fat cells are loosened from the tissue structure with the help of a high-pressure water jet so that they can then be suctioned out. In contrast to the tumescence technique, this method takes less time and is also a gentle method.

The ultrasonic method

In this procedure, a special probe releases energy through ultrasound. The fat cells are destroyed and liquefied so that they can then be suctioned out. This method is particularly suitable for harder tissue areas, such as the back.

In addition to the methods of liposuction mentioned, there are also the minimally invasive procedures (without surgery), which are listed below. There are no skin incisions.

The cryolipolysis – Liposuction at a glance

Using a special device (applicator), which attaches itself to the skin, the corresponding fat deposits are exposed to a temperature of -4 degrees Celsius. It is well known that fat cells are very sensitive to temperature, so they can be reduced with this method.

Injection lipolysis or “fat-away-injection”

A preparation is injected into the corresponding fat area using small needles. The dissolved fat cells are applied via the lymphatic system. Injection lipolysis is performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. A further 2 to 4 sessions follow at intervals of 2 to 6 weeks. However, this method is only suitable for smaller problem areas.

Conclusion – Liposuction at a glance

If you are not sure which method to use, you can contact your family doctor or a specialist who can certainly explain the individual procedures in a targeted manner.
