Some patients who suffer from morbid obesity also suffer from type 2 diabetes (diabetes mellitus). Both conditions are classed as multiple chronic metabolic diseases – lipometabolic disorders also fall into this category. As a result, the entire body suffers under this influence: starting with the individual organs, through the joints that have to bear the entire burden, to the psyche, which must never be ignored in this context! As a result, obese people are often ostracised from society, find it harder to make connections or find a job, and they rarely escape this endless hamster wheel without professional help.

Metabolic surgery is a surgical intervention on an anatomically normal organ system or organ in order to exert a positive influence on health by means of specific biological metabolic processes. Obesity surgery is also considered metabolic surgery – in particular because it allows weight to be reduced efficiently. In combination with a secondary disease (e.g. diabetes), such an intervention also leads to the health promotion of the disease. In other words, these gastric operations primarily serve to regulate the metabolism, which can significantly improve the general quality of life and extend life expectancy.
In addition to duodenojejunal bypass and ileum interposition, transit bipartition is also part of metabolic weight loss surgery in Turkey / Antalya. The focus here is on the treatment of patients who are struggling with a serious chronic illness, such as type 2 diabetes mellitus. From a medical point of view, many positive effects are achieved with this procedure, and patients are also extremely satisfied with the results here in Turkey. Do you have any questions? – No problem. We at Aestehtic-Travel in Antalya will be happy to advise you!
Transit bipartition roughly means “intestinal bipartition” – a procedure in which the bowel is effectively diverted. Initially, a gastric sleeve operation is performed. In a further step, a connection is created between the lower small intestine and the lower part of the stomach. To do this, the small intestine is cut near the connection to the large intestine (around 80-200 cm from the proximal side) and divided into two parts. The upper end – coming from the stomach – is then connected to the large intestine. The respective distance varies from patient to patient, as each body is individual.
Due to the intestinal bifurcation of the intestine, food can now either pass through the normal route (~ 1/3) via the pylorus, the duodenum and the small intestine, or it can travel directly (~ 2/3) to the lower end of the small intestine. Here, hormonal mechanisms are activated that lead to a premature feeling of satiety as well as an accelerated improvement of the metabolic situation in the body. As the food is also digested in the normal way, this new process does not lead to malabsorption!
At a transit bipartition, a tubular gastric surgery is performed and a large part of the stomach is separated. After that, a connection is provided between the lower part of the small intestine and the lower part of the stomach without cutting any part of the intestine. The food has now two different ways. There should be no indigestion.
This procedure is not only performed by overweight, but also by patients with type 2 diabetes.
First, a tubular gastric operation is done. For this purpose, an extensive prior checking is done to preempt, that there are infections or tumours. Additionally, the liver, pancreas, and gall bladder will be examined.
The procedure will be done under general anaesthetic and takes about one hour. The operation will be done with the keyhole technic and a few 2 centimetres cuts will be made. Here a camera and operating instruments will be inserted. A stapler is used to cut a large part of the stomach. The transit bipartition can’t be performed before this. For a follow-up check it will be necessary to stay in the hospital for 3 to 5 days.
This operation is not only for patients with a BMI of more than 40 but for everybody with a type 2 diabetes ailment and a BMI of 35.
For patients who take to much high-calorie food like sweets or alcoholic beverages this method is unsuitable. In this case, we are glad, to inform you about other options.
Since the method is still very young, there are no long-term results. But it is to recognize, that this kind of procedure has great success. You can lose between 33 to 83 per cent of your overweight.
After a tubular gastric surgery, the intestine cannot absorb enough vitamin B12, it will be necessary to add this as a food supplement.
Complications and risks while or after surgery depend on the health of patients and can greatly differ.
You will have to change your diet permanently. Nutrition counselling will be a good idea. In the first two weeks after surgery, you can eat only fluid or passed food. After that everything is allowed, but you should avoid too much fat. Food should be taken on five to seven little meals over the whole day.
