With the DHI Direct hair transplant method, hair follicles are placed one by one where they are needed. With the help of the DHI micro punch, the individual hair follicles are inserted precisely and their direction, depth and angle are taken into account. This achieves a natural look and maximum survival rates of the grafts.
DHI stands for Direct Hair Implantation. In contrast to the FUE and FUT methods, no incisions or stitches are made with the DHI method. This minimizes damage to the scalp. Using the DHI Micropunch, transplantation and microchannel opening are performed simultaneously. This allows precise use of the depth, direction and angle of the transplanted hair follicles.
With the DHI method, no head shaving, no cuts or scars are required in order to be able to carry out the transplantation.
The FUE method (Follicular Unit Extraction) is the younger, currently most common and modern method of hair transplantation. Transplants or so-called follicular units (FU’s) are hair root groups of 1-3 hairs and are removed and disassembled with precision work from the back of the head and the side area. This approach allows for a completely natural result. First, the hair at the back of the head is shaved to about 3 mm in length. Then the hair root groups are removed individually with a special instrument. A tiny hollow instrument is used, with the help of which the smallest skin particles with different numbers of hair roots can be removed using microsurgery. These hollow needles cause minimal puncture wounds that heal within a very short time. The procedure lasts several hours, the exact duration depends on the exact situation of the patient. The removed hair is prepared immediately after removal. The removed hair roots are immediately placed in the recipient zone. The hair root groups are transplanted into the smallest implantation canals. The donor area will heal on its own after just a few days. Nerve damage or injury to larger blood vessels is extremely unlikely. In addition, there is no numbness or scar pain. Another advantage is that if there is not enough hair on the head, so-called body grafts (hair from other parts of the body) can also be used.
Before every hair transplant, we conduct a consultation with our patients and assess the initial situation and determine the donor area. On the day of the DHI treatment: At the beginning of the treatment, the donor hair is trimmed. The affected donor and recipient areas are anesthetized locally so that the patient does not experience any pain during the treatment.
The hair follicles are now removed from the donor area with the micrometer, making sure that the follicles are centered, i.e. taken in the direction of growth of the individual hair. The hair follicle and the tissue surrounding it are exposed in a cylinder shape from the fixed tissue and then removed individually from the donor area using micro-tweezers. These extracted hair follicles are then implanted directly into the recipient area with the help of the DHI micro punch (diameter 1 mm), without having to make any incisions beforehand. Here again the placement of the grafts taking into account the direction, depth and angle is essential to achieve a natural hairline and natural looking result.
As with any surgical procedure, there are some risks. Postoperative infections are reported to affect less than 1% of patients. Similarly, you may experience some discomfort for a few days after your surgery as your head heals.
However, it is important to note that hair transplantation is one of the safest surgical procedures. Side effects are rare.
DHI can be used to treat: hair loss, hair loss, male pattern baldness, female pattern baldness. In general, it treats the same stages of hair loss as the FUE method.
