Breast augmentation – The female breast is probably the most important distinguishing feature of a woman. Perhaps you have just reached a point in your life where you are no longer satisfied with your breasts and would even like to have them enlarged? Then you should read through the most important questions about breast augmentation.

Why even seek breast augmentation?

Breast augmentation in plastic surgery is probably the most frequently performed procedure. Most women would like to have their breasts enlarged because they are not satisfied with their “natural” size, perhaps the breasts are even uneven and do not match their own body image. Since breasts cannot be enlarged without surgery (except temporarily with a push-up bra), self-confidence can suffer greatly. However, no woman should feel uncomfortable in her own skin, so it’s time to think about taking the appropriate step.

What breast augmentation options do I have?

There are basically two methods to increase breast size. You’ve probably heard of at least one method: implants that are placed in the breast to enlarge it. You can choose the cup size and discuss the implant shape that is to be used with your doctor. Round and oval implants in particular are often used, all modern implants are made of silicone these days. The filling of the implants usually consists of common salt, which is considered to be particularly harmless. The second option is to fill it up with your own fat: fat deposits from your own body are used here, for example from the abdomen, hips or buttocks. However, you can only gain one cup size with this method.

How does a breast augmentation work?

Before the procedure is carried out, you will of course have a comprehensive consultation with the plastic surgeon/surgical specialist, who will discuss with you exactly what you want from your “dream breast”. Together you choose an implant size and shape that best suits your breast. The doctor will take a close look at your breasts and may be able to show you before and after photos of other patients so that you can get a first impression of the end result. The doctor will explain to you exactly how and where he will insert the implants so that no or only small scars remain later. Since it is a surgical procedure, you will be informed in detail about the risks that can occur with every operation. Depending on the procedure, the operation is performed under general anesthetic and takes about 1-2 hours. Depending on your condition, you will stay in the clinic for 1 to 2 days.

How long does the healing process take?

If the healing process is good, the stitches can be removed after 14 days. After about two weeks you can take part in social life and resume your work. You should also wear a supportive bra for four weeks after the operation to positively influence the result. However, you should refrain from exercising during the entire healing process. Depending on the surgical method, visible scars can remain, but they usually heal well and fade. Your doctor can advise you otherwise, as there are special scar creams that make the scars paler.
