Diet plan after bariatric surgery
Important Aspects of Nutrition After Bariatric Surgery
Basics of changing your diet
Ensure effective weight loss and long-term weight maintenance. An adapted nutritional plan helps to meet the new needs of the changed digestive system and avoid malnutrition.
1st phase: liquid nutrition
- Immediately after surgery : The first nutritional phase after bariatric surgery involves a strict liquid diet. The aim is to support the healing process and protect the gastrointestinal tract.
- Nutrient-rich liquids : Consuming protein-rich shakes, broths, and other clear liquids is recommended.
2nd phase: pureed food
- Gentle introduction of solid food : After a few days to weeks, you switch to pureed food. This should be high in protein and easy to digest.
- Avoiding complications : Small meals help avoid nausea and discomfort.
3rd phase: Soft food
- Further Nutrition : This phase introduces soft, solid foods that are high in protein and low in fat and sugar.
- Slowly increase the amount of food : Portion sizes should be increased slowly so as not to overload the stomach.
Long-term nutritional adjustments
- Balanced diet : A long-term change in diet to a balanced, nutrient-rich diet is essential.
- Regular check-ups : Regular follow-up checks and nutritional advice are important to prevent nutritional deficiencies and support weight loss.
Careful attention to nutritional guidelines after bariatric surgery is critical to the success of the operation and the patient’s long-term health. Continuous medical and nutritional support helps to successfully integrate the new eating habits into everyday life.
Nutrition Plan After Stomach Reduction
- Blue level: expresses what should not be forgotten in everyday life. Exercise, vitamin-mineral supplementation, hydration (sugar-free, decaffeinated and calorie-free)
- Pink level: indicates high-quality protein intake. A protein intake of at least 60 g per day is recommended.
- Yellow level: refers to vegetables-fruits and olive oil. All vegetables can be eaten. Consuming 1 tablespoon of olive oil daily is recommended. Fruits with a high sugar content (banana, apricot, grape, peach, cherry, sour cherry, pineapple, etc.) should be consumed limited.
- Green level: controlled consumption refers to what needs to be consumed. Carbohydrate sources high in fiber such as legumes, whole grains and whole grain sources should be preferred.
- Red level: Consumption refers to non-recommended foods. High-calorie foods consist of fat, sugar and energy-intensive foods. Foods that fall into this group should be controlled. The intake of fatty meat and fat additives should be avoided.
